Avascular necrosis of the hip (AVN of the femoral head) is a medical condition in which the bones in the hip joint are damaged due to lack of blood supply, resulting in necrosis (tissue death). This condition is also called “osteonecrosis” or “aseptic necrosis”. The hip joint is a large joint that carries the weight of the body and therefore maintaining blood flow is vital for this area Avascular Avascular necrosis of the hip is a condition that usually affects one or both hip joints. This disease develops as a result of impaired blood supply to the hip joint.

When blood flow is reduced or cut off, bone tissue does not receive enough oxygen and nutrients, leading to the death of bone cells (necrosis).

Causes:The causes of hip avascular necrosis are not fully known, but some risk factors may include

  1. Kullanılan İlaçlar: Bazı kortikosteroid ilaçların uzun süreli kullanımı, AVN riskini artırabilir.
  2. Alcohol and Smoking: Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking can damage blood vessels and increase the risk of AVN.
  3. Bone Marrow Disorders:AVN can be associated with bone marrow disorders such as leukemia or other bone marrow diseases.
  4. Bone Trauma: Trauma to the hip area can cause impaired blood flow, increasing the risk of AVN.

Symptoms: Symptoms of avascular necrosis of the hip may include

  1. Hip pain, especially during hip movement and when carrying loads.
  2. Limping
  3. Hip joint stiffness and limitation of movement.
  4. Muscle weakness.

Treatment and Management: Treatment of AVN can vary depending on the age of the patient, the stage of necrosis and the severity of symptoms. Treatment options may include:

  1. Preventive Treatment: In cases of BL caught at an early stage, medications or dietary changes may be recommended to increase blood flow.
  2. Physical Therapy:Physical therapy may be recommended to strengthen the hip muscles and increase range of motion.
  3. Surgical Intervention: In advanced stages or when necrosis is widespread, surgical treatment may be required. This may involve repairing the affected bone areas or total hip replacement surgery.

Avascular necrosis of the hip can be successfully treated with early diagnosis and treatment. It is important for patients to be in regular contact with their doctor and make healthy lifestyle changes to reduce risk factors. It is also important that they consult a healthcare professional to better understand this disease and learn more about treatment options.
